Grand Caravan shifts to Chrysler from Dodge for 2021

Grand Caravan shifts to Chrysler from Dodge for 2021

Fans of the Dodge Grand Caravan were surprised late last year to learn that 2020 would be the final year for the Dodge Grand Caravan. At first, there was speculation that the only way to obtain a Grand Caravan in Calgary would be to purchase a used model. However, in some strange twist of circumstance, there will in fact be a 2021 Grand Caravan, but under the Chrysler name as opposed to Dodge.

What This Means for the Dodge Grand Caravan

This seemingly absurd shuffle will see an end to the Dodge Grand Caravan as we know it, while the name will be used to designate the new base model variant of the Chrysler Pacifica for 2021. The new Chrysler Grand Caravan will be reintroduced as a more "economical" alternative to the Pacifica. There will be two versions of the Chrysler Grand Caravan and, while all five models of the Pacifica will receive a new fascia treatment and major interior upgrades, the Grand Caravan will take on the look of the 2020 Pacifica and be a more simplified version of it.

Despite being more simplified, the Grand Caravan will end up costing more than the base Dodge Grand Caravan. It will be the Canadian equivalent of the Chrysler Voyager that is sold in the United States while the FCA focuses the Dodge name on performance-oriented offerings.

What the Chrysler Grand Caravan Has to Offer

The base Chrysler Grand Caravan will start at $37,995 and includes the 3.6 L V6 engine and 9-speed automatic transmission that can be found throughout the Voyager-Pacifica lineup. It will retain the third-row Stow 'n Go seating, 17-inch steel wheels, and 7-inch infotainment screen with the UConnect system including Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and proximity entry with a push-button start. Optional offerings include three-zone manual climate control, roof racks, and the SafetyTec suite of safety technologies (which include rear park assist with stop, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-path detection, forward collision warning with active braking, and pedestrian automatic emergency braking).

At $39,995, the SXT model is a slight step up from the base with three-zone manual climate control standard and adds in 17-inch aluminum wheels, a power-adjusting driver's seat, upgraded suspension, and one-touch power front windows. If you want second-row Stow 'n Go seats, it will cost you an extra $2,000. Other optional add ons include the cold-weather features (heated front seats and steering wheel plus remote start), the SafetyTec suite, power side doors and liftgate, a rear-facing DVD system, satellite radio, towing capability, and seating for 8. If you're wanting features beyond this, you'll be looking at the Pacifica lineup.
