How to Update Jeep's Uconnect Infotainment System

How to Update Jeep's Uconnect Infotainment System

Jeep offers one of the most striking and intuitive infotainment systems available on the market today. While other automobile manufacturers offer clunky systems that take too long to respond, Jeep has perfected the Uconnect system to offer the best possible experience for drivers.

The Uconnect system allows drivers to raise or lower the temperature for the climate control system with the touch of a button, as well as change the radio, connect to a smartphone, make a phone call, skip songs, and more. However, it is a software-based system, so updates are needed periodically to make sure that the system is functioning in the best way possible.

Keeping the Uconnect Infotainment System Updated

While drivers might be intimidated by having to update their Uconnect system, it is not really a difficult process. Jeep offers an entire website--DriveUconnect--that allows drivers to update their system simply by entering their vehicle identification number (VIN). The process does take time, but within 15 to 20 minutes, the system will be updated and back online for use.

How to Update Your Uconnect System

If an update is available, drivers can schedule a dealer service appointment or perform the update at home. All that is needed is a computer, the vehicle with the Uconnect system, and an empty USB drive with at least 4GB of space.

The process all starts at Uconnect's website. DriveUconnect.com is a comprehensive source for all questions related to Jeep's infotainment system.

1. Locate the Jeep's VIN, located in the bottom corner of the front windshield. This needs to be entered on the main page of the Uconnect website.

2. The website provides a tutorial that will detail all the steps drivers need to take to update their system.

3. For those with a Windows-based operating system, the Akamai NetSession Interface will be downloaded. It is not necessary, but it helps manage multiple files at once if there is more than one pending update. For those with just one pending update, Akamai is not needed.

4. When the link to download updates, right-click and save the files in a ZIP file format and move it to the USB drive.

5. Remove the USB drive from the computer and take it to the Jeep. Ensure that the vehicle is in a well-ventilated area and start it.

6. Plug the USB drive into the port in the vehicle. The vehicle will need to remain parked until the update is completed.

7. Press "Yes" to start the update. Do not turn off the ignition or remove the USB device until the update process has successfully completed.

8. Once the update has completed, the system will reset and return to normal operation. Wait another 60-90 seconds for another prompt. If the software update numbers match, press "No." The Uconnect system is now updated to the latest version.

9. Turn off the vehicle.

Jeep makes it simple to update its system with the process taking just a few minutes. Drivers can periodically check for updates at DriveUconnect.com/software-update.
